Indonesian speed climber shatters world record

Indonesian speed climber, Aries Susanti Rahayu, dubbed as 'Spider Woman' broke the word record in a mind-boggling climb earlier this week. The finished the 15-metre speed route in 6.995 seconds at the Xiamen Climbing World Cup in China, shattering the world record of 7.101 seconds. With that record, Rahayu became the first woman to beat the seven-second mark in the sport. The fact to applaud, however, is that she didn't let a hand injury deter her from putting in her best. The 24-year-old sportsperson broke the record of China's YiLing Song, who held if from April this year. "My condition is not good," she said after her record-breaking climb. "You can look at my hand, my fingers. She also said that she was blessed to get this record and it was amazing for her. Speed climbing will be introduced at the Tokyo Olympics, and Rahayu is already the hot favourite to take home the gold.
