Govt to support poultry medicine producers

Mazharul Islam Mitchel Director General of Department of Livestock Services under the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Dr. Hiresh Ranjan Bhowmik has said that the government is trying to boost the local poultry medicine production and help local manufacturers as they are meeting the local demands. The government has also taken various steps to support the local manufacturers, he added. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already given instructions to flourish this sector and stop the medicine import as similar products are being manufactured in the country. The government has taken many initiatives to boost this sector and we have discussed with drug authorities to find out the problems, he mentioned. Chief Vet of Dhaka's Central Veterinary Hospital Dr. Farhad Hossen said maximum local poultry medicines are being met by local manufacturers. Livestock Research Institute Director Ainul Haque told The News Today that there have big opportunities to invest in poultry medicine manufacturing sector. The local poultry medicine manufacturers have claimed that they have the capacity to meet the local demands. Agro Vet and Crop Care Divisional General Manager of Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Jayanta Datta Gupta told The News Today that the government should ensure that if local companies produce medicines then no one can import same medicines form abroad. The government should clarify the actual figure of demands in the country. He also suggested that initiatives are needed in the areas of doing business, cost of capital, trade facilitation and logistics. Other insiders said they cannot take any action against the exporters due to poor government policy. They also said the government's support can help export such products in coming days. All local companies are producing and selling huge amount of medicines at local market, Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd. General Manger Ehsan Aziz told The News Today. ACI Animal Health Business Director Mohammad Shaheen Shah said we have the capacity to meet the hundred percent of local demands. Already, we are exporting the poultry medicines to different countries. Chief vet Dr. Farhad Hossen said at least 17 diseases are seen for poultry birds several times in country, among them, bursal disease is the first followed by salmonellosis, other diseases are new castle disease, infectious bronchitis, coccidiosis, colibacillosis, chronic respiratory disease, visceral gout, necrotic enteritis, mycotoxicosis, aspergillosis, deficiency disease, mycotoxicosis, helminth parasites, fowl pox, lymphoid leukosis and infectious coryza. Chief vet Dr. Farhad Hossen said a good poultry health management is an important component of poultry production. Assistant Director of Department of Livestock Services Dr. Mohammad Abu Sufian said the proper poultry health management can help prevent the diseases. Director General of Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) Dr. Nathuram Sarker said the therapeutic medicines can help prevent diseases, and early treatment of chicken diseases and vaccine are also important.
