TCB sells Chinese onion at Tk 30 a kg in Ctg

Chattogram Bureau As supply of Indian and domestic onions is inadequate, Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has started selling Chinese onion at different points of Chattogram at Tk 30 a kg. Long lines of people standing behind TCB trucks in the port city came to notice on Sunday. Onion is more on demand than sugar, pulse and soybean oil now. Asaduzzaman who came to Jamalkhan to buy onion said that small size local onion is being sold for Tk 95-100 a kg in retail shops. Previously, I used to buy Indian onion sold by TCB centers in the city but now I have to buy big size Chinese onion, he spoke with a sigh. Another buyer expressing his reaction about soaring price of potato said it would have been better if the government would have sold potato in TCB trucks for Tk 30 a kg along with onion. Jamal Uddin Ahmed, head of TCB’s Chattogram regional office, told this correspondent that TCB items, including onion, were being sold in six trucks at different points of Chattogram city. In addition, 3 trucks have been sent to Anwara, Mirsarai and Khagrachari respectively and onion will also be sold at the same price at those areas, he informed. Moreover, TCB items are being distributed among dealers for sale in Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and three hill districts, Sadar and Upazila areas , he said.
