Govt to inform media on 100-day countdown to 'Mujib Year' today

News Report A 100-day countdown to 'Mujib Year' will begin formally across the country ahead of the celebration of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's birth centenary. Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, chief coordinator of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee, told The News Today on Tuesday about the kickoff. Chief media officer Nasrin Zahan Lipe said a press conference will be held today (Wednesday) with senior journalists for informing them various information about the celebration programme. Senior Information Officer Muhammad Mohsin Reza said they will also hear about the celebration planning at media houses. Information minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud will attend as chief guest the press meet. Celebration committee president Professor Rafiqul Islam will preside over the meeting while Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Director-General Liakat Ali Lucky will be present as special guest. The members of the "National Committee for the Nationwide Celebration of the Birth Centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman" and the "Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee" will attend the meeting. The 100-day countdown on celebration of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation will begin on December 8. The preparatory committee said opening ceremony of the year-long national programmes on the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be held at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on March 17 next year. Bangabandhu's Birth Day on March 17 is also the National Children's Day. On the day, various programmes including daylong painting competition for children will be held across the country. The opening ceremony of the 100th birth anniversary and Mujib Year at the city's Suhrawardy Uddyan will be broadcast live from the venue. The celebration programmes will include dissemination of historical information and photo display on Bangabandhu's life and work, attractive illumination and fireworks. The meeting gave necessary directives to the senior officials of all city corporations in the country, including the two city corporations in the capital, about the celebration. Public Administration Secretary Fayez Ahamad and Local Government Division Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed were present on the occasion. The two preparatory committees include ministers from different ministries and Awami League leaders.
