National Textiles Day today

News Desk "National Textiles Day-2019" will be observed today for the first time in the country as the government has set an export target of US$ 50 billion from the sector by 2021. The theme of the day is "globalization of the textiles sector-sustainable develop-ment". The Ministry of Textiles and Jute has taken an elaborate programme to mark the day, according to an official release Tuesday. President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the eve of the day. In his message, President Hamid said, "The textiles sector is playing an important role for rural poverty alleviation, women empowerment and employ-ment generation." After the Independence, he said, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had nationalized the textiles and jute sector in an attempt to make the sector a 'boom'. Terming textiles as the largest foreign currency earning sector of the country, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, as per the requirement of the 4th industrial revolution, the Jute and Textiles Ministry would have to take a move to patronize the textiles sector and disseminate the textile education as a whole. To mark the day, a colorful rally will be held on city's Manik Mia Avenue tomorrow. Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastigir Gazi and Textiles and Jute Minister Lokman Hossain Mia will participate in the rally among others. However, the main programme of the day will be held at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) on January 9, 2020. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the programme as the chief guest. (Inputs taken from BSS)
