JL for declaring Sept 28 as 'People's Empowerment Day'

Bangladesh Awami Jubo League (JL), youth wing of the ruling Awami League, on Saturday urged the government to declare September 28, the birthday of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, as the "People's Empowerment Day", reports BSS The Jubo League (JL) at a discussion in the capital also urged the authorities concerned to include Sheikh Hasina's 'People's Empowerment' philosophy in the academic curriculum. "We urge the government to declare the birthday of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina on September 28 as the 'People's Empowerment Day' and also include her philosophy of 'People's Empowerment' in the textbook," JL chairman Omar Faruk Chowdhury made the demand at the meeting here. Dhaka City South Unit of Awami Jubo League arranged the discussion as part of its month-long programme to celebrate the birthday of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the 'People's Empowerment Day'. Noting that Bangladesh is now a 'role model' of development under the efficient and farsighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said being blessed with Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman we are the citizens of an Independent Bangladesh and the country is moving towards development at present. Speaking as the chief guest, AL general secretary Obaidul Quader said Sheikh Hasina deserves this recognition and it is really a legitimate and time-befitting demand. Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said in last 44 years after the brutal assassination of Bangabandhu and most of his family members, Sheikh Hasina proved herself as a successful, administrator, diplomat, prudent and brave leader of the nation, taking the country into a new height globally. Echoing the identical view, foreign minister Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen said, "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina always thinks about the people's empowerment which can help resolve all sorts of problems. And the UN endorsed a resolution with her philosophy of people's empowerment in 2012." "The state should give her (Sheikh Hasina) recognition in this regard as she is the lone politician and the head of the government, who got this appreciation internationally," Dr Momen added. Former health adviser to the prime minister Dr Syed Modasser Ali, AL joint general secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak, economist Prof Abul Barakat, JL general secretary Harunur Rashid and president of Dhaka City South JL Ismail Chowdhury Samrat, among others, spoke on the occasion.
