Dutch Queen lauds govt initiatives

UN Secretary-General's Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development Queen Maxima has praised the initiatives of Bangladesh government to include all people in the financial development process, reports UNB. The Dutch Queen, who left Dhaka slightly before Friday dawn wrapping up her three-day visit, also expressed her interest to support the government's development priorities in future. She met Chair of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Finance Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali on Thursday and discussed the related development issues, said a media release on Friday. The both side also underlined the excellent bilateral relations between Bangladesh and The Netherlands. The issue of future cooperation between the two countries was also discussed. The meeting between Queen Maxima and a high-level delegation from Ministry of Finance led by Mahmood Ali was held at a city hotel. In the meeting, Ali highlighted the government's initiatives and successes towards inclusion of people from all segments in the financial activities and development process. He particularly emphasised the government's vision 2021 and 2041 and the success in digitalisation. He described how the 'Digital Bangladesh' concept is helping inclusive financial development in the country. Ali thanked the Queen for visiting Bangladesh and expressed hopes for continued cooperation both with The Netherlands and the United Nations. The Netherlands Queen also shared her experiences in digital financial inclusion, digital security, NID's incorporation with digital system and enhancement of women engagement with digital technology etc. At the meeting, Maxima and Jabbar discussed different bilateral issues between Bangladesh and the Netherlands, and hoped to reach the existing friendly relations to a new height. Highlighting different initiatives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in expanding ICT and ICT-based services, Jabbar said the government in the last ten years reached broadband internet to every remote areas of the country and digitized Bangladesh post offices. Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Ashoke Kumar Biswas, BTRC Chairman Md Jahurul Haque, Post Office Director General SS Bhadra and officials concerned were present.
