NZ ODI series to help Tigers in WC: Rubel

Bangladesh pace bowler Rubel Hossain on Monday said the New Zealand ODI series that Bangladesh lost 0-3 will help the Tigers in the upcoming World Cup which is scheduled to commence on May 30 next, reports UNB. Rubel was part of the Bangladesh ODI squad during the three-match series in New Zealand. However, he was sidelined in all of the matches due to the right combination according to the team management. The move of keeping Rubel out of the playing XI in all three matches created criticism among the spectators. "We lost the series in New Zealand. But it was a big opportunity for us to learn many things. The condition has a similarity with that in England. So, I think the experiences of playing in New Zealand will help us do better in the World Cup," Rubel on Monday told reporters at Mirpur Academy. During the ODI series, Bangladeshi batsmen were clueless against the quality pace-attack of the hosts. Bangladesh lost the first two matches by eight wickets while in the last match, they were capitulated by 88 runs. "It was tough to adapt to the condition of New Zealand as there was too much wind. Our batsmen also struggled to show their natural game. If we could have adapted to the condition faster, the results of ODI series might have been different," the right-arm pacer further said. Rubel is now busy with getting prepared for the 50- over format of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPDCL). He will represent the defending champions of tournament Abahani Limited. As regards his goal in the tournament, Rubel said: "I'm gearing up for the 50-over leg of Dhaka League. I want to finish the tournament as one of the best bowlers. I will be trying to play according to the team plan." Rubel believes the 50-over leg of Dhaka League will help him prepare for the World Cup this year. Rubel has played 26 Tests, 96 ODIs and 27 T20Is for the Tigers. He has scalped 33, 122 and 28 wickets respectively in Tests, ODIs and T20Is. With 122 scalps in ODIs, Rubel is the fourth highest wicket- taker for Bangladesh in the 50-over format of international cricket.
