News Today journo wins award

News Report Nineteen journalists, including The News Today Staff Reporter Mazharul Islam Mitchel, have won the Poultry Media Award-2018 of Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC) for their contribution to promoting the vital sector. The award was given in five categories for their poultry-related news published by November 30 last year. Journalists working for newspapers, news agencies and online, television and radio outlets and poultry magazines received awards for the best reporting on the poultry sector. Each award carries a certificate, a crest and prize money for the journalists from different media who participated in the competition. The prize-giving ceremony was held at the Tofazzal Hossen Manik Miah auditorium of the National Press Club in the capital on Monday noon. Director-General of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) Dr. Hiresh Ranjan Bhowmik was present as chief guest at the event. Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC) Vice-President and Managing Director of Quality Feeds Limited Ihtesham B. Shahjahan was present as special guest at the ceremony, presided by BPICC president Moshiur Rahman. The awards were handed over by the jury board members of the Poultry Media Award-2018. They are Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Editor in Chief, Ekushey Television, Abdul Quayum, Associate Editor, the Daily Prothom Alo, Md. Mofizur Rahman, Professor and Chairman, the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Dhaka Universtiy, and Shyamal Dutta, Editor, the Daily Bhorer Kagoj. In print media, the first prize was awarded to staff reporter of The Daily Janakantha Rahim Sheikh while senior reporter of The Daily Bhorer Kagoj Moriom Moni Sejuti got the second prize. Mazharul Islam Mitchel, Staff Reporter of The News Today, received the third prize. News Editor of The Daily Natun Probhat Sohel Mahbub was the only person to receive an award in the 'report of publication of newspaper from outside Dhaka' category. In the online category, Abdullah Al Mamun, staff reporter of Jagonews24.com, was the sole winner. Khorshed Alam Jewel of Agrinews24.com was the only one to receive a prize in the 'online poultry and agriculture-related magazine' category. In the TV and radio categories, the first prize went to Shushant Sinha, special correspondent of Jamuna Television, and the second prize to Maksudul Hasan, senior correspondent of Ntv. The third prize went to Faizul Siddique, agricultural reporter of Chanel 24. Winners of another prize of 'Rising Poultry Reporters' are Rangpur Correspondent Merina Lavli, staff reporter of Ekattur Television Mehedi Hasan Dollar, staff reporter of DBC News Ibrahim Pathan, staff reporter of Mohona Television Tanzila Nijhum, senior staff reporter CM Aminul Mozlish, staff reporter of Kaler Kantho Shawkat Ali, senior staff reporter of Jugantor Hamidur Rahman Bhuiyan, staff reporter of Samakal Shamshul Haque Mohammad Miraj, senior staff reporter of Ziaul Haque Mizan and business reporter of the Independent Sharif Ahmed. Bulbul expressed satisfaction for huge response from the reporters. He said, "Besides general poultry issues, some important issues like MDG, SDG, Poultry Recycling, and Impact of Climate Change on Poultry industry were covered by the media reports." Moshiur Rahman said, "Awareness is needed to be raised among the masses about health and nutritional issues. There were negative propaganda and conception about poultry egg and meat, which needed to be changed." He expected support from the Ministry of Information for promoting egg and chicken meat in the mass media.
