Stocks close week upward

Business Desk Stocks closed the week upward as all indices of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) advanced marginally. The turnover and trade volume at DSE maintained upward trend as the turnover increased to Tk 593.70 crore from the Wednesday’s Tk 484.49 crore and the trade volume rose to 15.02 crore from the previous session’s 10.51 crore shares. The broader index of DSEX closed the session with 16.90 points up at 5,259.11. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 2.94 points up at 1,210.46 and with 5.37 points up at 1,859.10. At the DSE, out of the day’s 336 securities, prices of 158 securities closed higher against 135 losing issues. The major gaining issues were CVO PRL, Primetex, Apex Foods, M.R.Textile and Shepherd. The major losing companies were Easter Cables, United Power, VFS Thread, AIBL 1st IMF and Matin Spinning. At the port city, CSE closed the week with upward trend with its major CASPI 33.80 points up at 16,101.76. At the CSE, 241 issues were traded. Of those, 126 closed higher and 92 closed lower when 78.35 lakh shares worth Taka 25.44 crore changed hands. Earlier, after five consecutive day of downward trend stock markets returned to a green zone on Wednesday as the issues across both Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) were found finishing with an upward trend with higher activities of large-cap securities. The markets were downbeat in the last five sessions before Wednesday, taking the broader index at the prime bourse down at the close of every trading session since Wednesday in the previous week mainly due to price fall in large-cap securities. On the opening day of this week on Sunday, stock markets closed with downward trend mainly due to price fall in large-cap securities despite higher transactions. In Wednesday’s trading the broader index of DSEX closed the session of the week with 37.86 points up at 5,242.22. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 7.09 points up at 1,207.52 and with 10.79 points up at 1,853.73. The day’s trade value at DSE increased to Taka 484.49 crore from Tuesday’s Taka 440.03 crore and the daily trade also rose to 12.84 crore shares from 10.51 crore shares of the previous session. At the DSE, out of the day’s 335 securities, prices of 206 securities closed higher against 80 losing issues. The major gaining issues were MLDYEING, ACFL, Standard Insurance, Saiham Cotton and Al Haj Textile. The major losing companies were PLFSL, Asian Insurance, AMBEEPHA, ICBSONALI1 and Peoples Insurance. SKREIMS topped the turnover list followed by Saiham Cotton, VFSTDL, BBS Cables and INTRACO. The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with upward trend with its major CASPI 87.28 points up at 16,067.28. At the CSE, 224 issues were traded. Of those, 135 closed higher and 84 closed lower when 66.72 lakh shares worth Taka 21.93 crore changed hands. Earlier on Tuesday stocks fell for the 5th consecutive session as most indices on the country’s both bourses — Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) — witnessed a fall on lower activities of large-cap securities. The major falling sectors were pharmaceuticals and chemicals, cement and engineering. A total of 172 securities of the large-cap group incurred loss due to lower activities. The broader index DSEX of DSE finished the session of the week with 20.58 points down at 5,204.36. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 4.29 points down at 1,200.43 and with 5.32 points down at 1,842.94. The daily turnover in value at DSE declined to Taka 440.03 crore from Monday’s Taka 538.21 crore and the volume of shares decreased to 10.51 crore from 14.32 crore shares of the previous session. At DSE, out of the day’s 339 securities, prices of 79 securities closed higher against 214 losing issues. The top five gaining companies were VFSTDL, Aziz Pipes, SAPORTL, Style Craft and Libra Infusion. The major losers were Savar EFR, PHARMAID, Premier Cement, SALAMCRST and BXSYNTH. KPCL topped the turnover list followed by VFSTDL, SKTRIMS, UPGDCL and PHARMAID. Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed the day of the week with downward trends with its major CASPI 51.50 points down at 15,797.99. At CSE, 255 issues were traded. Of those, 66 closed higher and 157 closed lower when 59.96 lakh shares worth Taka 16.95 crore changed hands.(Inputs taken from agencies)
