Dhaka-Tangail commuter train service begins

News Report Dhaka-Tangail commuter train service resumed operation from Thursday, fulfilling a commitment made by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2012. Railway Minister Mujibul Haque inaugurated the train service at Kamlapur Railway station as the chief guest. Among others, Secretary of Railway Ministry Mofazzel Hossain, Additional Secretary (Development and Planning) Abul Kalam Azad, Additional Secretary Pronab Kumar Ghosh and Joint Secretary (Admin) Rafiqul Islam were present at the function. Two trains named 'Tangail Commuter-1' and 'Tangail Commuter-2' will run between Kamalapur railway station in Dhaka and Bangabandhu Setu (east) railway station in Tangail from now. One train will depart Kamalapur railway station at 5:20 pm and reach Bangabandhu Setu (east) railway station at 8:30 pm and another train will depart Bangabandhu Setu (east) railway station at 6:00 am and reach Kamalapur railway station at 8:50 am. The much-awaited Dhaka-Tangail commuter service will formally begin its operation from Kamalapur railway station tomorrow with 10 coaches. Meanwhile, -A direct train service on Panchagarh-Dhaka route is scheduled to be launched on November 10, aiming to ease communications with country's Northern district. At present Drutojan Express and Ekota Express trains ply on Dhaka-Dinajpur route. The passengers of Dinajpur-Panchagarh route were being deprived of direct train service with Dhaka. The two trains will ply on Panchagarh-Dinajpur route following new schedule while on Dinajpur-Dhaka route as per old schedule. Besides, Suttle train service on Dinajpur-Panchagarh route will be closed.
