Five Dy Attorneys General fired

News Desk Five deputy attorneys-general have been removed through cancelling their appointments "in public interest", an official announcement said. The five DAGs are Zahirul Haque Zahir, Abdullah Al Mamun, Md Jahangir Alam, Shaikh AKM Moniruzzaman Kabir and Manjur Kader. President Md Abdul Hamid has exempted five deputy attorneys-general from their services "in public interest", a law ministry notification said Tuesday. The Ministry of Law issued a gazette notification to this effect. Law Secretary ASSM Zahirul Haque signed it. In the notification the ministry didn't cite any specific reason for the removal of the five DAGs. According to sources at the Attorney-General Office, there are now one attorney-general, two additional attorneys-general, 75 deputy attorneys-general and 108 assistant attorneys-general to deal with the cases on behalf of the state. The government action, incidentally, came in the wake of plethora of cases and writ petitions many of which involve state and political matters of high public interest.
