Bus kills Mirpur student

Protesters halt traffic

A student of the Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) was killed in a bus accident in Dhaka's Mirpur area. Other students from BUBT blocked the road from 11am to 2pm to protest the accident. The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Masud Rana, a fourth-year BBA student. The accident took place while Masud was heading to his campus on a rickshaw in the early hours of Monday. Masud fell to the ground in front of the Sony Cinema hall after a Dishari Paribahan bus hit the rickshaw from behind. The bus then ran over him and fled the scene, said Abdur Rashid, inspector of Shah Ali Police Station. Locals rushed Masud to the National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Pongu Hospital), where doctors declared him dead. The students of BUBT gathered on the Mirpur-1 road and vandalised at least 5 or 6 Dishari Paribahan buses protesting the accident, reports bdnews24.com
