Speakers call at Baishakhi progs

Our Correspondent NARSINGDI, Apr 15: The speakers in a discussion underscored the need for flourishing and enriching our own culture to build the peaceful, prosperous and non communal Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The speakers stressed the development of Bengali culture at a function held at Shilpakala Academy on Saturday to mark the Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bengali New Year. Among others, Police Super Shaifullah Al Mamun BPM, PPM, Civil Surgeon Dr Sultana Razia, Deputy Director Local Government Dr. ATM Mah-abubul Karim, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Abdul Awal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue, Education and ICT) Shaiful Islam, Additional District Magistrate Shoshuma Sultana, Upazila Chairman Narsingdi Sadar upazila Monzur Elahi, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Sadar, Salim Reza, former Principal of Narsingdi Government College Prof Mohammad Ali, Prof Surja Kanta Das, Golam Mostafa Miah and Principal of Abdul Kader Mollah City College Dr Moshiur Rahman Mirdha addressed the function. District administration arranged various programmes including Mongal Shobhajatra, cultural function, Baul song, Lati Khela, Grameen play and Lalon song to celebrate Pahela Baishakh at the Zila Shilpakala Academy compound. Deputy Commissioner Narsingdi Syeda Farhana Kawnine as chief guest inaugurated the programmes at Shilpakala Academy premises. She also led a large Mongal Shobhajatra from Local Muslehuddin Bhuiyan stadium which paraded the streets and terminated at Shilpakala Academy premises. People from all walks of life, students of different educational institutions, officials of government and non-government organizations joined the Mongal Shobhajatra. District Administration, Various socio-cultural organizations, different cultural groups and other organisations of the district chalked out separate programmes to celebrate Bishakh. The programmes included distribution of sweets, folk festival, recitation, discussion meeting, musical soiree, painting competition for the children and feeding of 'Panta Bhat' with fried Hilsha and Rohi fish to entertain the guests. Shamsuddin Ahmed Esak Music Academy, a local cultural organisation, also organised various programmes to celebrate Baishakh under the Banyan tree of Arshi Nagor in the town.
