BNP should join poll without convicts: Inu

NILPHAMARI, Feb 23: Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said on Wednesday that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was engaged in a battle against militancy and corruption, reports BSS. "There will be no relief for corrupt elements nor will there be any leniency for war criminals, "he said. The minister was speaking at a meeting, organized by Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASHOD), at Jaldhaka upazilla town's zero point. Inu said the punishment of Khaleda Zia has started a new era. Henceforth, no corrupt persons will be spared, he added. "The BNP-Jamaat Alliance had forced a war on the state. Now they were in retreat. But they did not surrender," he added. He said Khaleda Zia's conviction and election facilitating government - all these were settled issues and there was no scope for further discussions on the issue. The information minister said that Khaleda was convicted, not BNP, so there was no bar to the party's participation in the poll. He called upon BNP to forget about Khaleda's release or the issue of facilitating government and join the election. "You've wasted four years talking about this election facilitating government but could not come up with a specific framework, don't waste any more time," he said. Another report adds: Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, here on Thursday said the government will establish information complexes soon in the first phase at 26 district headquarters of the country, reports BSS. "The 'Construction of 26 (1st Phase) New Information Complexes with Modernization of Development Commun-ication Activities' project now needs approval of the ECNEC for its implementation," Inu said. The Minister disclosed this while addressing a meeting with local officials of Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar, Rangpur Sub-station of Bangladesh Television and District Information Office at Rangpur Circuit House in the city. Rangpur Regional Director of Bangladesh Betar Sayed Mostafa Kamal, Senior District Information Officer Md Humayun Kobir and Engineering In-charge of BTV Rangpur Sub-station Humayun Kabir briefed the minister about their ongoing activities. The Minister directed the officials concerned for properly disseminating the information among the common people about massive developments and successes achieved by the present government during the past nine years. Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman, Additional Superintendent of Police (Circle-A) Saifur Rahman, Joint General Secretary of JASOD central committee Shakhawat Hossain Ranga, Regional Engineer of Bangladesh Betar Md Atiar Rahman, its Deputy News Controller Rashed Foysal Kabir, among others, were present. Another report adds: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested a young man along with 15 molotov bombs and Yaba tablets from Goalchamot area of the district town on Sunday morning, reports UNB. The arrestee was identified as Shahriar Hossain Shanto, 22, son of Shahdat Hossain of Char Krishnapur village. Tipped off, a team of Rab-8 conducted a drive and arrested Shanto along with the bombs and 90 pieces of Yaba tablets, said Md Rois Uddin, additional superintendent of police and company commander of Rab-8. The arrestee was wanted in seven cases, said the Rab official.
