US Nobel Laureate lauds NSU success

News Report Bangladesh has achieved a tremendous success in the field of education. Universities specially the North South University (NSU) providing quality education to thousands of students. This was told by Professor Martin Chalfie, the American Nobel Laureate and professor of Columbia University at a press conference organised by North South University (NSU) on its campus at Bashundhara in the city on Monday. The press conference was inaugurated by Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof GU Ahsan. The Nobel Laureate was introduced by another renowned teacher Prof Anwar Huq, University of Maryland, and International Advisor of NSU Board of Trustees. Prof Chalfie gave a brief description of his work that brought him the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2008 for his discovery and development of the green fluorescent protein (GFP) and shared insightful directions and advises for promoting higher education, research and collaboration. His paradigm shift discovery and collaboration will certainly facilitate future developmental biology research activities in NSU. He encouraged the engagement of young generation in science and research from a very early of their academic lives to meet the challenges of the 21st century. He emphasized that young generation especially students from different schools across the country should be encouraged to carry out research activities. He also talked about the global climate change. In regards to the development of academic and research activities of the county Prof. Chalfie mentioned that NSU can be considered as a model institution pioneering in higher education and research in Bangladesh. The press conference was concluded with the vote of thanks and remarks from Prof. Atiqul Islam, Vice Chancellor of NSU. It was conducted by Belal Ahmed, Head of Public Relations (PR) of NSU.
