Persons with disabilities integral part of society

Our Correspondent GAIBANDHA, Dec 27: Speakers in a function here on Tuesday said the children affected with disabilities are the integral part of the society and asset and future of the nation, not burden. "The children with disabilities can make huge contribution of the society by flourishing their latent talent, if they are given care and educated properly", they said. They made the comments while addressing a discussion meeting organized by Sarkerpara Buddhi Protibandhi and Autistic School (SBPAS) under Ballamjhar union of Sadar upazila here on its premises at noon. Deputy director (DD) of Social Services Department Emdadul Haque Pramanik addressed the function as the chief guest and upazila social services officer Abu Sufian, Ballamjhar UP chairman Jahedul Islam Jhantu and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman were present at the event as the special guests. With chairperson of the school M. Abdur Rashid in the chair, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by head teacher Jahanara Khatun and teacher Sazu Miah. Nobody has any hand about the persons with disabilities but there is some negative perception about the disability and autism, they said. Putting emphasis on coming out of negative perception about disability and autism, they said disability or autism is not a disease; rather it is a diversity of creation. DD Emdadul Haque Pramanik in his speeches said many world famous personalities including Albert Einstein, Darwin, Newton, WB Yeats and Stephen Hawking were autism by born but autism or disability could not create any obstacle to flourishing their talents. The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had already enacted 'Disabled Persons Rights and Protection Act, 2013 for the welfare of the persons with disabilities side by side with taking beneficial activities for them, the DD also said. A large number of people including guardians, local elite, public representatives, and journalists attended the function.
