339492 babies administered vitamin A capsules

Our Correspondent NARSINGDI, Aug 6: The National Vitamin A plus campaign-2017 (1st round) was observed in the town and six upazilas of the district administering vitamin A capsules to around 3,39492 babies on Saturday. Deputy Director (Health) Dhaka office Dr. Nazib Ahmed inaugurated the pourashava level campaign administering a vitamin A capsule to a baby at Narsigndi Zilla Hospital premises in the morning. With the chair of Civil Surgeon Narsingdi Dr. Sultana Rezia, President, BMA Narsingdi Dr. Mozammal Hoque Kamal, Medical officer Narsigndi pourashava and general secretary BMA Dr.Shagidul Hoque Apu, RMO Sadar hospital Dr. Amirul Hoque Shamim and RMO Zilla hospital Dr. Mijanur Rahman were present among others concerned in the function. In the district around 32846 among targeted 33099 children age 6-11 month and 306646 among targeted 308211 children age 12-59 month were administered vitamin A plus capsules. The campaign began at 8am at 1818 centres and 29 mobile centres in the district continued till 4pm. Over 5454volunteers including family welfare assistants and health assistants were engaged for giving vitamin A plus capsules to the children. Civil Surgeon Sultana Rezia while talking to BSS here this morning she mentioned that vitamin A supplementation is essential for the normal functioning of the visual system, maintenance of sell function for growth, red blood sell production, immunity and reproduction. It,s also very important for reduction of the diarrheal attack and prevention of post-measles blindness.
