Abahani, Gazi Group win third round ties

An allround performance by Shuvagata Hom enabled Abahani Limited to register their third successive wins in the third round of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League beating Brothers Union Club by 32 runs held on Thursday at Khan Shaheb Oslman Ali Stadium in Fatullah, reports BSS. Shuvagata was shine with bat as he blasted 44 runs off 17 balls with seven fours and a six to help Abahani to post a massive total of 327 for 6 from the allotted 50 overs, after they decided to bat first. Uday Kaul fell five runs short of a century struck five boundaries during his 120-ball stay on the crease and in this process he first added 96 runs opening stand with Liton Das (48) runs and then 88 runs with Nazmul Hossain (49) for the second wicket stand and again added 86 runs with Mahmudullah (49 n.0) for the third wicket stand to take Abahani's total over 300 runs landmark. For Brothers Union, national discard Alok Kapali and Kazi Kamrul Islam shared two wickets each conceding 46 and 46 runs respectively. Chasing a winning target 328 runs, Brothers Union Club, despite opener Junaid Siddique's a brilliant 127-run knock, fell short as they were restricted at 295 for in 50 overs. Junaid struck eight boundaries and as many as over boundaries during his 112-ball stay on the crease. Shuvagata, who was named the player of the match, was the pick of Abahani bowler as he claimed three wickets conceding 45 runs. He was well supported by M Saifuddin who bagged two wickets giving away 50 runs. In the day's other match, a fierce bowling spells by Abu Haider enabled Gazi Group Cricketers recorded a an overwhelming eight-wicket victory over Legends of Rupganj in the curtail over third round match held on the day at BKSP ground no 4 in Savar. Haider, the wrecker in chief, grabbed four wickets for 26 runs, to dismiss Rupganj in a paltry total of 156 in 44 overs, after they opted to bat first. Mahmudul Hasan top scored with 30 at no 4 followed by skipper Mushfiqur Rahium who added 26 for Rupganj. Apart from Haider's four wickets haul, Indian recruit Parvez Rasool claimed three wickets while Mehedi Hasan bagged two. In reply, Gazi Group, rode on Jahurul Islam's unbeaten 62 runs knock, comfortably reached the target and in this process he added 59 runs opening stand with Anamul Haque (34) and again paired 79 runs second wicket stand with Mominul Haque (44). He finally sealed the win with skipper Nasir Hossain (15 n.o) contributing unbeaten 19 runs for the third wicket stand to take Gazi at home in 36 overs with eight wickets in hand. Abu Haider of Gazi Group was named the player of the math for his devastating bowling performance in the match.
