Burkina Faso president to address UNGA

Ouagadougou, Sept. 22: Burkina Faso President Roch Marc Christian Kabore will take part in the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York from Sept. 22-27, according to a release from the presidency on Saturday, reports Xinhua. On the UN rostrum on Sept. 24, Kabore will read out the session's theme "Galvanizing multilateral efforts for poverty eradication, quality education, climate action and inclusion." He will address the assembly on Burkina Faso's position regarding major current concerns in Africa and worldwide, the release said. On the sidelines of the general debate, Kabore, acting president of G5 Sahel, a regional cooperation framework including Burkina Faso, Chad, Mauritania, Mali and Niger, will participate in a high-level meeting about Mali and Sahel. The release said that Kabore will co-chair a high-level meeting of the UN Peacebuilding Commission, which will be held under the theme "Prevention and peace building in Burkina Faso." Since 2015, Burkina Faso has been facing a series of terrorist attacks that caused over 500 deaths and displaced 280,000.
