Our Correspondent Islamic University, Sept 22: The journalists of Islamic University staged a demonstration on the campus in Kushtia recently protesting the suspending of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University's Daily Sun correspondent, Fatema-Tuz-Zinia. Around 50 journalists of Islamic University Journalist Association and Press club jointly formed the human chain as part of the declaration of 'Campus Journalist Federation' in front of the Mrittunjoyee Mujib mural of the university around 12:00pm. While addressing the human chain, the speakers condemned the incident saying the suspension of Zinia over a facebook post was not acceptable. The university authorities suspended her without showing valid reason. They demand punishment of the accused persons who were involved with harassing journalists in BSMRSTU campus, seeking apologies of the university authorities and ensuring environment of journalism. They would go on tougher movement if their demands were not met. They also demanded immediate resignation of BSMRTU vice-chancellor, Khandakar Nasir Uddin, to the government. Among others, IUJA president Emran Shuvro, its vice-president Mahfuj Mishu, general secretary Humayun Kabir Jibon, treasurer Ashik Bony, Press Club president Ferdousur Rahman Shohag and its general secretary Shahadat Hossain Timir were present. Earlier on September 10, the BSMRSTU authorities suspended Fatema Tuz Zinia for her posts on social media which the authorities claimed had tarnished the university's image. The suspension of the female journalist sparked criticism on the social media. Many demanded withdrawal of the suspension notice, unconditional removal of vice-chancellor of the university and proper investigation into the corruption allegations brought against VC. Although the university authorities on Wednesday served a notice claiming that a section of teachers and fellows, on behalf of Faatema Tuz Zinia, had sought apology to the authorities concerned and they withdrew her suspension order.
